Ah, the memories which sound can recall in us, eh? Jesus knew of what he spoke when he taught about the sheep following the voice of the One they know.

There are times in a preacher's life when she is able to reach others by reaching into deep her own heart and mind and soul. It comes at no small cost but it is clearly worth the investment.

You honor me with your comments. Thank you. But Jim, you honor me not only with your tears, but for the great honor you felt holding the sacred body and blood of Jesus which was to be taken to those who are apart from us but are no less a part of us.

I think that if I died in this moment, I would sing the Nunc Dimiittis and be immediately assumed into glory.Elizabeth Kaetonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06787552280232329081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29373297.post-52898506286277657862008-04-13T20:03:00.000-04:002008-04-13T20:03:00.000-04:00I wish you all could have been there for this serm...I wish you all could have been there for this sermon. It was one of the most moving sermons I have ever heard preached. The story of her father was amazing, but as an LEM, I was deeply moved by the theology of being the voice of Christ, and of hearing it in their response.

When she said, "When you hold up the wafer and say to someone, “The Body of Christ,” they are able to say, “Amen” because they hear in you the sound of Christ’s voice and they are able to follow.

Your voice will be one of the ones people will remember when Jesus welcomes them into heaven. Those to whom you minister will know the voice of Jesus because they have come to know your voice. The real miracle of this ministry, however, is that you will know the sound of the voice of Jesus in the grateful sound of their “Amen.” " I lost it.

I was actually the LEM for today. I unsuccessfully fought back tears for the better part of an hour... while I was distributing the Eucharist and then receiving the LEM kit and bringing it out into the congregation - cradeling it safely on my lap... wow.

My meager voice shouts, Amen!JimMollohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15569109219280693846noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29373297.post-76355030412672902712008-04-13T19:17:00.000-04:002008-04-13T19:17:00.000-04:00Mimi is, as she so often is, exactly right on this...Mimi is, as she so often is, exactly right on this last point, Elizabeth; it was as good as it was to the hearers because it was so good for you, and the love you shared with it.

You're one hell of a fine priest.johniebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11635403219973766022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29373297.post-71183043712162916632008-04-13T15:32:00.000-04:002008-04-13T15:32:00.000-04:00The sermons that the preacher needs to hear the mo...The sermons that the preacher needs to hear the most are often the best for everyone. Your sermons rock!

I, like you, became too familiar with the beer drinkin' voice that became the "Angry voice" and ended up with "all things unpleasant" with my dad. But it is his "don't scare the fish" voice by which we are bonded.

My best childhood memories of my dad are of fishing...on banks, in boats, with lines, jugs, or poles, in lakes and ponds and rivers. He was (still is) a real believer in being quiet so as not to scare the fish. I think one of the reasons I loved fishing with him as a child was because his "don't scare the fish voice" was soothing, and he was doing something he loved much more than work (he's a retired bricklayer.)

Now, he's an old man and I enjoy that he uses that voice more. I think years of backbreaking work and hard living burned a lot of the other stuff out of him to a large degree.

He and I have certainly had a tumultuous run in life, with a lot of dark days and many difficulties over the years...but for some reason drowning worms with him channels the two of us into the perfect world we should have had as parent and child. It's sad and wonderful at the same time. But when he is gone, it will be his "don't scare the fish" voice that will be remembered!Kirkepiscatoidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02651684515435040529noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29373297.post-25959393854037278802008-04-13T15:03:00.000-04:002008-04-13T15:03:00.000-04:00Thanks, Mimi.
