Stoopidity 101

Presiding Bishop Katharine Schori's memo detailing her plans to depose
Bishop Duncan is here:

The Task Force on Property Disputes (the gang of "lawyer bishops" headed by Stacy Sauls) weighs in here:

Bishop Duncan comments on the plans here:

Please note: This is stuff that has been known for months and yet the "hacking" into the HOB site and the illicit methods of gaining this information are being triumphed as a ligitimate source of "news."

Please don't forget to wear your Kevlar vest and asbestos tennis sneakers when you read the comment section.

Question #1: Why is it that people who have professed to have "left TEC X# of years ago" are still hooked into Episcopal/Anglican blogs?

Question #2: If you've "left" TEC, why do you still care? Except, of course, that you still do. (Note to self: You left Rome more than 40 years ago and you still read National Catholic Reporter.) New question: Can you ever leave the church you once loved?

Question #3: Memo to self: Why do you bother to read so-called "orthodox blogs" or send people to read them?

Question #4: Why do people gawk at accidents, train wrecks and watch reality shows?

Queston #5: Isn't the deposition of Bob Duncan and Jack Leo Iker as much a fait a compli as the deposition of John-David Schofield?

Question #6: So, why is this news?

Question #7 (last one, I promise) Why do I care?

With apologies and prayers for the Church.

  1. You are so damn logical, Paul (And you ordered the BEST meal last night. Hands down.)

  2. And, you have a 'faux' blog which allows you to post comments but not really "blog". Clever. Very clever.

  3. Oh, I struggle often with the "Oh, why do I care" moments.

Short answer. 'Cuz you do. 'Cuz this is about things bigger than you and it upsets you when some people want to make it all about THEM instead of the church...and what's wrong with that? You are just hoping to see God in the middle of the mess. Again, what's wrong with that? Nothin!

  4. WRY Q3 - I will make reference to stories on the faux=orthodox blogs. My blog list includes a couple of conservative sites.

As a matter of principle, I will not link to certain "conservative" blogs, inclusing Stand Firm and Virtue Online which are little more than cesspools of bile and hypocrisy.

  5. Question #8 --and what do I do with a Bishop (Lee) who refused to inhibit Duncan when he could have done so?

Question #9 --where is the Good News in all this?

    sigh.....

  6. Margaret, I believe that the "Good News" is that the pruning hooks are at work so that the tree will bear better fruit.

Or, the sheers are out for the lambs so we will have more wool.

Or, insert your favorite biblical metaphor of the cycle of death-rebirth-renewal.

Here's another question: If we progressives are so evil, and this is a move to a more pure religion, a more orthodox faith, why not rejoice? Why fight and bicker every step of the way?

Let them go with our blessing, I say - but not with our property or furniture.

Ah, now I remember why there's fighting and bickering and no rejoicing from the Right side of the church.

  7. I think there is a fundamental flaw in our nature, call it, oh I dunno how about 'original sin' that makes us unable to let go of anger and hate. It is hard to explain the comment section on SF and DV's sites any other way. It is even manifest in the authors' work on occasion. Cf. the conversation between yours truly and the SF principal about "puppet bishops" a few days ago.

In the Lord of the Rings, Frodo stops his friends from killing Wormtounge and Sauraman (fogive my spelling) and worries that they may yet do evil in a small mean way, even after they are cast out.

I care about the deposed former Episcopalians as they attempt the small evil of theft. They are our brothers (few women there!) and they lead our sisters and brothers into evil. I care for them and for their followers. I also care about the smaller mean evils they continue to attempt against us.

I should think we all need to care about them, and defend the church they hate.
