Come in! Come in!

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer; if you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" -- Shel Silverstein

The Antidote to Recession/Depression

Change is coming.

Change we can believe in.

But first, change will bring with it sacrifice and trials and tribulation.

Our son was laid off today. He was working in the finance department of a major auto dealership. He and his wife have three children ages 9, 4 and 4 months.

It's going to be rough, but change is coming.

Be the change you seek.

Yes, we can!

I am so sorry for your son and his family, prayers arising. I hope people do not expect instant miracles from Obama, change will take a long while considering the mess the world is in now.

No, not instant miracles. Just an invitation to be part of the change we seek. That's going to take some time, I know. Our son will be okay. It's the long run we're all interested in and committed to.

Thanks Brian R. You are a noble wolf.

I agree it won't be quick, and the situation will most probably be much worse before it turns.

But it's the long run that matters.

We have been told for so long, "No, you can't." To be told, "Yes, we can," is as liberating as it is galvanizing, inspiring conviction and commitment.

It won't be easy. It will take time. We just have to keep saying, "Yes, we can."

Many if not most churches are now facing stewardship issues that they have not experienced in several generations if ever. 9/11 brought lots of scared people into churches. Will the depression do the same? How will we respond, especially when the needy people are not only our embarrassed own but long lapsed members who feel the need to return and be welcomed? Lots of opportunities to serve and counter the schismatics' criticisms. And perhaps a need to keep in contact with Terry Martin+ in his "new" responsibilities?

It is a scary time for your son and his family. In time all will be well but the waiting and struggling and worrying are not fun. Prayers.

Sorry to hear about your son. I have been there. My father was there during the Great Depression. But we made it. It is possible--not comfortable. It takes the humility to accept love from others even when we would rather go it alone. It takes the willingness to recognize that it is not all in our hands. But in all we must have it profoundly rooted in our souls--Yes, We can--together we can.
