Tonight at the Integrity Briefing Session, NEAC (National Episcopal AIDS Commission) Board member, David Noregard, reported this story:
This morning, a very pleasant, nattily dressed, white haired woman stopped by the NEAC booth. She looked over all the literature with great curiousity and, smiling that never-to-be-mistaken-polite-white-Episcopal smile, said to one of the volunteers, "My, what a nice booth." And then, hesitating, added softly, "I'm surprised you're here."
Puzzled, the volunteer, asked, "Why do you say that?"
And the woman responded (are you ready?), "Well, I thought AIDS was, well. . . .you know . . . passe."
Taking a deep breath to get his bearings (having just had his socks knocked off), the man looked at her and, returning that never-to-be-mistaken-polite-white-Episcopal smile said, "And that's is precisely why we're here."
You just can't make this stuff up.
