Come in! Come in!

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer; if you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" -- Shel Silverstein

Happy Birthday, Pete Seeger!

Today is Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday!

You don't have to be a student of American History to understand the importance of folk music in general and the resurgence of folk music in the 60's and 70s.

It was all part of a movement in protest of the War in Viet Nam - to recall our heritage in general and this nation's commitment to peace in particular.

We sing so many of Seeger's music and lyrics without even thinking about it: "Turn, Turn, Turn." "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?" "The Water is Wide." "If I Had A Hammer." "Wimoweh."

He sang with the best of them who also recorded his music. Malvina Reynolds. Judy Collins. Bob Dylan. Peter, Paul & Mary.

In this clip, he sings one of my favorites of Malvina Reynolds.

If Seeger has touched your life the way he has so many lives, why not visit the Birthday Page at the Smithsonian Magazine and leave a personal birthday greeting to this great man.

Good for you for posting that! I heard about it being his birthday on NPR & read a NYTimes review of his birthday concert. So glad he lived to see the Obama administration!
