"Finally, I suspect that it is by entering that deep place inside us where our secrets are kept that we come perhaps closer than we do anywhere else to the One who, whether we realize it or not, is of all our secrets the most telling and the most precious we have to tell." Frederick Buechner

My poor left foot
THIS, friends, is how I got a stress fracture of my left 5th metatarsal bone.
Yes, the dance instructor is really nice to look at, and she's really good, isn't she? Notice the woman in the green T-shirt in the back? That's more what I looked like my first class.
Just a little confused. I knew I was always "offbeat" but being "off the beat" can really do damage to a girl.
The guy in the middle of the room is more what I look like now. Well intentioned and dreaming of looking like the instructor, but still not really getting the moves.
My problem is that I try to do the dance steps, watch the instructor, and try to figure out what to do with my body. There's no way I can catch up with the instructor, which is part of the fun, but sometimes, my body can't catch up with my feet. So, the bones go one way and the ligaments go the other and the result is a "stress fracture" of the small bones - especially if you aren't wearing the correct shoes.
Which I am. Now. How these women do this in spike heels is beyond me!
It is only by the grace of a merciful God that I haven't broken my neck!
My favorite part is 'round about 3 minutes in. The combination "Beyonce-Shakira" moves are just too much fun - and very sexy - until you look in the mirror.
I'll tell you what - that ain't Beyonce or Shakira lookin' backatcha.
Oh, and BTW, this is only 9 minutes of a - ready? - ONE HOUR CLASS.
Just lookin' for a little sympathy, is all.

If it makes you feel as good as it seems to, it is a gift from God.
I do my exercise upstairs with the blinds drawn ... I look like a crane/goose mutant thing trying to take flight. but I long to look as good as the guy on the DVD.
Carry on sister.
(BTW- Still hurting, but feeling less punchy)
Thanks, FJ. Glad to know you're feeling better. Sorry to whine about my little stress fracture.
Sympathies for your sassy, sexy self. Zumba on, my friend!
A Plumeria 'with color' for you:

Thanks, Riley. I LURVES me some plumeria. Esp. with color ;~) One day soon - this summer - mine will be purple, too.
We all need to vent.
Besides, I've broken toes. Hurts like nothing else I know.
flashback: me at one of the "Y's" in Montreal (a few blocks from the little penthouse) doing heavy lifting, looking through the glass at the natives in the dance-room, thinking, "look! look how much fun they're having!" (and, occasionally, getting a look back, which, being translated, is, "mind your own business!")
reprise: what a way to go!
good on you, E.!
i'm impressed you can even stand at the end of an hour - that is some workout!
Thanks, Scott. I really can't wait until Monday. Besides, Aleve really helps.
Odd. That's what my personal trainer uses for his shoulder...that Aleve thing. You go!
:)
I am sorry for your pain.
It will pass, I pray soon. You have too much before you to be hobbled.
FWIW

You can still walk after Zumba? I am impressed. May you heal quickly.
Oh, honey, I impress my self every Monday night. And, Tuesday morning when I can actually get out of bed.
Oh honey! Your toe. Feel better and know I send my love.
(I knew there was a reason for me to avoid those classes...)
xoxoxox
Seriously??? You broke your toe ZZoommmmbbbbbaaaaaing?!?!?! If I were there, I would take you out for a drink and laugh at you. Yes, I'd kiss you and love you and laugh at you. This is why God doesn't want us to exercize. Don't tell anyone... it's imbedded deep in The Book of Revelation. Seriously? You broke your toe?
We're in Florida. See you next Sunday. Love you (and your toes).
Seriously, Mollo. The 5th metatarsal, which is directly across from the arch of the foot.
Oops, sorry. Commented on the wrong post
Ah, busted toe... let me count the number of toes I have busted or dislocated... especially the two I did just before walking 240 miles (pinky toe and 4th metatarsal).
The pain is intense, the swelling has nowhere to go (like stepping on a hose with the water running full blast), and you feel ridiculous that something so small could hurt so much.
Hope you're elevating, icing and taking whatever works to dull the pain. Also, for sure, you are taping it. Take care.
