Come in! Come in!

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer; if you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" -- Shel Silverstein

Dateline General Convention, Anaheim: Quote of the Day

The quote of the day from the House of Bishops (I swear to God this is true but I won't identify the source. Oh, okay, buy me a martini and I just may spill):

"What we need to do in this resolution is to give a sense of movement without actually doing something."

As the British would say, "Well, and there it is, then."

To quote George Burns, "Say Goodnight, Gracie."

As I have often said about the church, "You just can't make this stuff up."

Or, to quote my then feisty but now sainted grandmother, "Ah, the things we do for Jesus."

How many martinis will it take to get you to "spill?"

Only one martini, sister?

Should I meet you at the bar?

But sometimes the Spirit uses that intention and does unintended things with it. I have no doubt that this sort of cynicism exists in the HOB. From what I can tell, some of them in their other concerns and desire for a more princely status have forgotten their charge as chief shepherds.

Nonetheless, they may open floodgates by passing legislation. It changes further the overall perspective, for example, of people in the pews, for example. And that unintended consequence will change further how we are together.

ROTFLMAO!

Statements like this really test my Anglo-Catholic committment to the idea that these folks are successors to the Apostles. Can we imagine Peter, James, and Thomas a few days after Pentecost saying, "We need to give a sense of movement without actually doing something"??????

Kyrie eleison!

Hmmmm , , , does that fit into "things we have done" or "things we ought not to have done" or do we need a "being a weasel" category?

Two very different responses from you and Susan Russell -- I am confused.

As quoted, "What we need to do in this resolution is to give a sense of movement without actually doing something."

This has great potential for a new hit Reality TV show. You could have people simulating doing something really great in the church and whatever happens doesn’t matter because nothing is actually done. How do we market this idea to Hollywood?

but the joyously essential truth is that something DID happen!Praise God!

i can only hope that this Bishop was one of probably several who were joyously surprised at themselves when it came time to vote on D025.

bottom line is it's a new day in the Church: equal cause for praise and thanksgiving

and our Elizabeth was there. thanks to Ms. C for her generosity is sharing her & prayers for safe travel for all those returning home.

Ahh!! the dream of Prince Bishops with an account at Gemmeli's and all the purple cassocks and lace trimmmed cottas and surplices. Copes and Mitres; oh my.

After years in the shadows they have thrown open the doors and let the spirit and its light rush through the house.

If I were in Anahiem, I'd buy the Martini and ask you to keep the beans in the jar. This is not a time fro recriminations.

I had the same question as Margaret. Is there a number you prefer? Also, gin or vodka?

Christopher, I agree. "The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes."

If we needed it, that statement is proof that we need to re-consider how we select bishops. We may have a better system than England, but then considering recent op ed writing that is damning with faint praise.

The wisdom of these blogfolk makes life in TEC a bit more palatable. I wonder if we took the E out of Episcopal what would it look like?
