The Episcopal Women’s Caucus gives thanks for the life of the Rt. Rev. Edward Witker Jones, IX Bishop of Indianapolis, who died on Saturday, July 28, 2007. Bishop Jones was the first bishop to serve on the Board of the Caucus and only the second male. In 1985 he was appointed to chair the Committee on Women in the Episcopate in preparation for the 1988 Lambeth Conference, work to which he devoted a sabbatical.
+Ted Jones was part of a small group of bishops who met with the board in the early/mid 1980’s and asked us to consider holding board meetings in conjunction with meetings of the House of Bishops because our presence had a positive impact on the work of the House. We agreed and that practice continued until 1991 when meetings of the House of Bishops were closed and they went to the Kanuga model.
Throughout the course of his ministry he provided support to women, lay and ordained. We offer prayers for his wife, Anne, and his family. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
"Finally, I suspect that it is by entering that deep place inside us where our secrets are kept that we come perhaps closer than we do anywhere else to the One who, whether we realize it or not, is of all our secrets the most telling and the most precious we have to tell." Frederick Buechner
Come in! Come in!
"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer; if you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" -- Shel Silverstein
