Come in! Come in!

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer; if you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" -- Shel Silverstein

Living here is sort of a seat on the state at the theater of the absurd. Now we have the governing crook appointing Roland Burris Senator. Had he done that in the first place everyone in the State would have nodded.

Mr. Burris is an Illinois legend, he is the first black elected to statewide office, and won 5 straight elections in a row. His string ended (I voted for him) when the Governor slithered into office.

I am guessing the governor claimed that if this went to a special election of if Pat Quinn made the appointment, it would be a white guy. That appears to be the logic he used unsucessfully trying to talk Congressman Davis into the job.

On the other hand, who is the fist black man or woman to be elected in your State? Illinois is looking pathetic at the moment but there is some reason for pride -- we have RMr. Burris albeit I suspect he shall never be a senator.

FWIW

I feel Mr. Burris should've said no to the appointment. As for the statements by the congressman that African American's deserve a seat in the senate I agree. Everyone is free to run. I say have a special election. That would be fair to all. Mr. Burris could run.

I just wonder if people who consort with crooks might be one them self?
