Come in! Come in!

"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer; if you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" -- Shel Silverstein

Ellen at Tulane: "You're gonna be okay . . . . . just dance"

I'm not preaching this morning, so give yourselves a real treat and spend the next 9 minutes and thirty seconds listening to Ellen's May 16th Commencement Speech at Tulane.

Funny. Smart. Poignant. Wise. Honest.

All that in under 10 minutes.

She hit it right out of the park!

I wish someone had said these words to me when I was 22.

Yup. It's that brilliant.

Thanks for this, a wonderful woman, obviously because she had the sense to marry an Australian even if she has problems with our language. Reminds me that when I was in Canada and the guide handing out brochures said to name our language. My friend said Australian so the guide turned the brochure upside down.

Thanks for sharing this, Elizabeth. I put it up on my blog and "shared" it on Facebook as well. Both my folks have now commented on the link on Facebook and they loved it as well. Hope you're having a good day - break from preaching and all...

I never seem to have a serendipitous security word - sicolymo? sounds like a laxative or something...or a real crazy dude - that guy's a real sicolymo!

Brian R - He DIDN'T turn the brochure upside down! That's too funny!

renz - The preacher this morning was wonderful, so I didn't feel at all guilty that I didn't preach (yeah, sometimes I do). It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, TBTG, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. Hope you have a glorious day as well.

The clip doesn't show Ellen dancing which she did.

Word = swayin. Let's keep doing it.

Wow, Pseudo - I'll look for that version. What fun!

This is wonderful. On so many levels! I, too, wish someone had said something like this when I graduated.... and I was 30 something!

What! Not preaching? --surely you just mean the wordsmith thing... it IS Franciscan to preach without words. (I know because my beloved was a Franciscan for 15 years....)

I've already changed it. Thanks again. It's perfect.

I saw a clip of her speech on the CBS Evening News tonight along with several other commencement speakers, one of which was Archbishop Tutu at North Carolina. A fine speech there, too.

BTW, I like the font on your "visual verification" word. It's so much easier on the eyes than the somewhat scrambled ones I often see.

Truly brilliant. Shedding a tear for her witness. Thanks.
