Just so you know: Hip Hop is NOT evil.
It's not even bad.
Some of it is really, really good.
Word.
There are just some performers who take the musical medium to another place - to a reflection of the gritty, violent urban world where they live - where 'respect' and 'manhood' are worth dying for - even unto murder.
(Hasn't it always been thus? Can we say, 'Iraq'?)
But 'Hip Hop Nation' is not just about that.
Someone named Donald Anderson of All Saint's Episcopal Church in Oxnard, CA sent me this link to his church web site. They will be having their first Hip Hop E-Mass next Thursday, February 8, 2007.
If you go to their website and click on the last link that says "Hip Hop Mass Coming Soon. Check it out dude!" you will see a wonderful video of the Hip-Hop E-Mass that was held at Trinity/St. Paul's on Wall St. in Lower Manhattan, NYC.
Give a shout-out to God and say 'Word-up' for Bishop Herb Donovan who blessed the Hip-Hop E-Mass Books of Common Prayer.
If that link isn't 'hot' go to: http://www.allsantos.org/hip_hop_mass_coming_soon___check_it_out_dude_
"Finally, I suspect that it is by entering that deep place inside us where our secrets are kept that we come perhaps closer than we do anywhere else to the One who, whether we realize it or not, is of all our secrets the most telling and the most precious we have to tell." Frederick Buechner
Come in! Come in!
"If you are a dreamer, come in. If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a Hope-er, a Pray-er, a Magic Bean buyer; if you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax-golden tales to spin. Come in! Come in!" -- Shel Silverstein
